Date of Establishment of the Department: 2003

Mechanical Engineering was one of the branches started under the aegis of University College of Engineering, established in the year 2003, at Punjabi University, Patiala (Main Campus). The department has been established with the objective of imparting quality technical education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has earned reputation in North India. The four year B,Tech. Program in Mechanical Engineering aspires to endow students with engineering knowledge and practical experience for building a robust foundation in various aspects. The department also offers M.Tech. (Regular & Part Time) courses and Six Year Integrated B.Tech.-M.B.A. The department is equipped with excellent infrastructure and various state-of-the art laboratories. The laboratories possess latest equipment, instruments and software packages. Aesthetically designed academic area, cafeteria etc. in a clean and green ambience provide a very conducive environment for academics. The main strength of the department is the dedicated band of qualified faculty members, offering a harmonious blend of industrial and academic experience. Presently, there are 34 faculty members in the department, 7 Professors and 27 Assistant Professors along with well-trained technical and non-technical staff to assist them. The department boasts of its intellect with 14 doctorate faculty members. Punjabi University is NAAC 'A' grade accredited by the University Grants Commission

ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਤੀ : 2003

ਮਕੈਨੀਕਲ ਇੰਜੀਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਸਾਲ 2003 ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ (ਮੁੱਖ ਕੈਂਪਸ) ਵਿਖੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਆਫ ਇੰਜਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਦੇ ਤਜਵੀਜ਼ ਅਧੀਨ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਖਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਸੀ । ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਅੰਡਰ ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਅਤੇ ਪੋਸਟ ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਪੱਧਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਗੁਣਵੱਤਾ ਦੀ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ । ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਚਾਰ ਸਾਲਾ ਬੀ.ਟੈਕ. ਮਕੈਨੀਕਲ ਇੰਜੀਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੰਜੀਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਪੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਜਬੂਤ ਬੁਨਿਆਦ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੈਕਟੀਕਲ ਤਜਰਬਾ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਵਿਭਾਗ ਐਮH ਟੈਕH (ਰੈਗੂਲਰ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਰਟ ਟਾਈਮ) ਕੋਰਸ ਅਤੇ ਛੇ ਸਾਲਾ ਇੰਟੀਗ੍ਰੇਟਿਡ ਬੀ.ਟੈਕ ਐਮ.ਬੀ.ਏ. ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਖੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਲੈਬਾਰਟਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਬੁਨਿਆਦੀ ਢਾਂਚਾ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਾਜੋ ਸਮਾਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਵੀਨਤਮ ਸਾਫਟਵੇਅਰ ਪੈਕੇਜ ਵੀ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਹਨ । ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾਪੂਰਵਕ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਖੇਤਰ, ਕੈਫੇਟੇਰੀਆ ਆਦਿ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਫ ਤੇ ਹਰਾ ਭਰਾ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ, ਵਿਦਿਅਕ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਸਿਰਜਨ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਲਾਭਦਾਇਕ ਸਿੱਧ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਮੁਖ ਤਾਕਤ ਉੱਚ ਯੋਗਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਫੈਕਲਟੀ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੂਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਉਦਯੋਗਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਾਦਮਿਕ ਤਜਰਬੇ ਦਾ ਸੁਮੇਲ ਹੈ । ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਚ 34 ਫੈਕਲਟੀ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ 7 ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਅਤੇ 27 ਸਹਾਇਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਲਈ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਿਖਿਅਤ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਅਤੇ ਗੈਰ-ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਸਟਾਫ ਵੀ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਹੈ । ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿਖੇ 14 ਯੋਗ ਪੀ.ਐਚ.ਡੀ. ਫੈਕਲਟੀ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਗ੍ਰਾਂਟਸ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਏ ਗ੍ਰੇਡ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੈ ।

2018 02 01	Workshop on "E-Conclave" organized by placement cell on 1 " February 2018 from 2pm- 5pm
2018 02 19	Dean Research, Punjabi University, Patiala Organized a Workshop on “Skill Development & Career Counseling” for students on 19.02.2018 from 2.30pm to 4.00pm in Science Auditorium to deliberate on “New Trends in Skill Development, Campus Placement and Overseas Opportunities for Engineering, Science, Management, Commerce, Social Sciences Education”. Dr Amandeep Dhir conducted the seminar.
2018 03 25-27	Annual sports meet “FACE OFF 2018’ of Department of Mechanical Engineering was organized on March 25-27, 2018, which included events like Cricket, Badminton, Volley Ball, Football, Moto Racing, Card, Ludo.
2018 03 21-27	NSS department organized 7 day NSS camp from March 21-27, 2018 for Engineering students.
2018 04 06-08	Game development workshop was organized by students of Motosport Club on April 06-08, 2018 which included designing of the Engineering Departments using Auto desk and then converting the same into a game using software Unity 3D. The workshop was facilitated by senior technical member Mr. Paramjeet Singh from company “Seaitech, Mohali”.
2018 04 07-08	Finishing School With The Sport Of Entrepreneurship & Skill Development Cell And The Motosport Club (Ucoe) Organized An "INTERNSHIP FAIR" On 7th (AN) & 8th April, 2018 At Engineering Wing, Punjabi University, Patiala. 25 Companies participated in this Internship fair and approximately 95 students were offered 4-8 weeks internships in various companies.
2018 04 10-11	PHD Chamber of Commerce in Collaboration with Punjab Govt's organized "Rural Entrepreneurship Innovation - Convention & Exhibition" and "Boot camp on Startups"" on 10th & 11th April, 2018. Punjabi University team “PLACEST” took part and won the competition of Startup Ideas in Startup Boot Camp of “Rural Entrepreneurship Innovation convention and Exhibition and was awarded an “ALPHA CARD” worth $1 Million. A team comprising of six Punjabi University students, viz. Anupama Mishra, Garvit Singla, Nishchay Handa (ME), Aastha Gulati, Akshay Tanwar and Supesh Chanana came-up with the concept titled “PLACEST,” aimed at providing employability opportunities to those talented students, who do not otherwise qualify as per prescribed eligibility criteria, was awarded first prize by the Chief Guest of the day (Valedictory Session on 11th April), Maharani Praneet Kaur
2018 08 07-09	A fest “Fresher’s Fayre 2k18” was organized by the students of Motosport Club on August 07-09, 2018 to give a brief introduction of the University to the Fresher’s along with some fun events and entertainment. The 3 days included the orientation of the University & all Clubs present in University; Fun Events and a Motivational Seminar on Engineering & Communication Skills by Ms. Harleen from the company “Bulls Eye”; the last day included a best talent show by the talented students present within the university. The fest included Barbeque Nation, Patiala Bites, ECP, Education Tree Academy and Bulls Eye as their Sponsors.
2018 08 29-31	Mock Placement Drive was organized by students of Motosport Club on August 29-31, 2018 which included the skill development of the Engineering Department Students for their final Placements. This placement drive included all the 3 phase which one faces in their placement, i.e. Aptitude Test, G.D., Interview. The Mock Placement Drive was facilitated by company Bulls Eye: Coaching Centre for MBA-CAT.
